Under the Scriptwriter/Screenwriter Initiative (SSI) for better integration of educational content in entertainment products, the program Empowerment, Voice and Accountability funded by DFID broadened its scope. The program decided to develop a first of its kind Entertainment Education Curriculum for university students in Pakistan in order to train the next generation of Pakistan’s media professionals in the practical orientation and/or theoretical underpinnings of entertainment-education.
This curriculum was developed through engagement with academic institutions in Pakistan. Following the preliminary consultative sessions held in October 2016 with universities across Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore, a workshop on ‘Entertainment-Education for Academia’ was organised and conducted for the participating institutes between January 9 to January 13, 2017 in Dubai. The participants were introduced to the EE curriculum developed by the Center, which focused on the art and strategy of entertainment-education to address social and educational issues with theoretical underpinnings of social and behaviour change communication models.
By December 2017, all eight institutes piloted the course.
Training of Trainers is recommended before teaching the course.
