
Center organized two design workshops with councilors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and Punjab on February 13 and 15, 2018 in Peshawar and Lahore respectively. The workshops were held under the GiZ-funded initiative to support citizen voices, rights and responsibilities as per the local government systems of Punjab and KP through the art and strategy of entertainment-education. The purpose of the workshops was to develop a representative character for elected officials of local government, using a human-centered design (HCD) approach. HCD is an approach that offers an opportunity to design innovative solutions together with communities and is rooted in their actual needs and aspirations.

A total of 17 male and female councilors from Nowshera, Peshawar, Lahore and Kasur participated in the two workshops. The design workshops used a range of facilitative learning and action approaches to help participants to talk about certain issues of councilors in their respective areas.
The workshops had an interactive format and participants worked in groups to complete different tasks divided in three sessions. By the end of each session, participants gave presentations to a plenary for further feedback and discussion. Through these workshops, persona of effective and ineffective councilor was developing by listing down positive and negative characteristics as
well as its visualization. Participants very creatively developed the universe of the effective councilor through their observation and experience. They also suggested slogans. The workshop collected relevant information to develop a representative character of a local councilor, which will be used in different campaigns in KPK and Punjab.
