
Center was represented at the prestigious Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Summit held in Bali from April 16-20, 2018 through a poster session, an oral presentation and a booth under the Sukh Project. This global platform had participation of over 1,200 people from across 90 countries. These included SBCC practitioners, researchers, and representatives from academia, government, non-government, civil society, as well as international NGOs and donor organizations. The SBCC Summit is held every two years and is the most prestigious gathering of communication activists.

Ms. Natasha Ejaz, on behalf of Center, presented a poster on the success of the entertainment-education curriculum. The poster depicted a step-by-step process for developing and inducting the curriculum in higher education institutions of Pakistan. The main objective of the ongoing program is to institutionalize and mainstream the art and strategy of entertainment-education through academic cooperation. The curriculum development and its induction is carried out jointly with Palladium Pakistan under the project, ‘Empowerment, Voice and Accountability for Better Health and Nutrition.’
Dr. Sarah Khokhar made a presentation under the theme “What Works “ on Center’s Innovative Financing Model for Developing Entertainment Education Products.
The presentation was part of a panel -” Think Outside the Box: New Models and Frameworks”. An entertainment education drama serial “Sammi” was developed under a tripartite funding arrangement between USAID’s Health Communication Component (HCC), DFID’s Empowerment, Voice and Accountability project and Hum Television. Given this context, the presentation focused on the evolution of this drama serial Sammi, and the leveraging of seed funds to fund and broadcast this epic serial on a premier television channel. An English-language short documentary consisting of on-location interviews and pivotal moments in the storyline and show casing the development, delivery and impact of the drama was also shown to the audience as part of the presentation.
The session was well attended and generated a lot of interest among colleagues in other countries working on similar initiatives.
Mr. Irfan Hayee and Ms. Mahwish Gul showcased the learning made from Pakistan’s first urban family planning project, Sukh Initiative for which Center is a strategic communication partners. As the strategic communication partner to Sukh Initiative being implemented in Karachi, Center established the project’s exhibition stall at the Summit. The stall helped bring visibility to Sukh Initiative. Center also facilitated participation of Sukh Initiative representatives at the Summit, who attended a list of keynotes, plenary talks and skill development workshops.
