Public Service Message on Early Bathing

In January 2018, Center, in collaboration with International University Islamabad Pakistan, with support from Palladium Pakistan, held the first national convention on an important health issue regarding newborn health. Pneumonia is one of the leading causes of newborn and infant mortality. The local tradition of giving a bath to newborn, for the purpose of giving Azaan in ear, may lead to hypothermia, which in turn may lead to pneumonia and can prove to be fatal. Islamic scholars from all school of thoughts, unanimously agreed that Azan can be given in the ear of a newborn without giving a bath. This Public Service Message is promoting the same national declaration of Islamic Scholars on this issue.
