Center engaged <button class=\"btn btn-primary btn-me\" data-toggle=\"modal\" data-target=\"#firstModal1\">Andrew Whaley<\/button>, a dramatist and <button class=\"btn btn-primary btn-me\" data-toggle=\"modal\" data-target=\"#firstModal2\">Caroline Jacoby<\/button> an academic to develop the course.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the course is to change the common perception that entertainment cannot educate. It proposes that relevant, conscious stories that tackle meaningful social issues are, in fact, synonymous with entertainment, and that stories that inspire, provoke and lead dialogue in society are desirable.<\/p>\n<p>There is an unmet need in Pakistan for powerful, engaging stories on sometimes difficult and challenging subjects.<\/p>\n<p>The EE-SBCC course is designed to reflect and engage with the fluid and changing realities of Pakistan today. Thus, a course in SBCC would aim to empower students with the tools to engage audiences in issue-driven, socially relevant drama. The course also seeks to give students the critical wherewithal to tell important stories, thus changing the social narrative from one of apathy, escapism and division to one that strengthens national dialogue and encourages healthy and responsible questions about culture and society.<\/p>\n<p>EE-SBCC is character-driven drama. Thus the approach is not didactic and preachy. Students learn the methodology for designing and writing education entertainment using characters on a journey of change. The skills learned during this course can be brought to bear in many social sectors where Behaviour Change Communication is employed at the policy and administrative level in the government, for advocacy in private and non-governmental institutions and as a storytelling tool for creative personnel in the arts.<\/p>\n<p><em>The course design is influenced by the specific needs of individual institutions in Pakistan. For more on the development of the course, <a href=\"https:\/\/ccp-pakistan.org.pk\/ee-curriculum\/faqs\">click here<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"maintitle\">Overarching Goals<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Develop student knowledge and skills to be prepared to infuse the entertainment industry with socially relevant material.<\/li>\n<li>Enable students to understand and use Entertainment Education for Social Behaviour Change as a tool for creating stories that inspire positive change, empower and enlighten individuals and communities.<\/li>\n<li>Students will produce an artistic product (up to scripting) that integrates the principles of Social Behaviour Change Communication.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 class=\"maintitle\">Overarching Objectives<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Explain the principles and potentials of Communication for Social and Behaviour Change<\/li>\n<li>Use behavioural theory to inform their program.<\/li>\n<li>Develop a creative brief (guide for program writers and evaluators)<\/li>\n<li>Describe behaviour change drama with a transitional character.<\/li>\n<li>Develop characters, including the transitional character, linked to behavioural objectives, character profiles, setting, themes and universe.<\/li>\n<li>Write behaviour change drama storylines and treatment.<\/li>\n<li>Develop scripts.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 class=\"maintitle\">Course Requirements<\/h3>\n<h4>Participation (10%)<br \/>\nWritten Assignments (90%)<\/h4>\n<p>The students (in groups or individually) will develop a 3-episode drama serial (TV or Radio or Internet based) Potential student projects may be around any social topic.
